Introduction

This page serves as a repository of Complimentary Devices that can be paired with C6747/45/43 floating-point digital signal processors (DSPs) when integrating the device into a system. The Complementary Products listed here serve a wide range of functions such as:

  • Providing basic support functions for the SoC (power, clocking, etc.)
  • Expanding the interface options beyond the on-chip peripherals
  • Creating the link between the digital domains on the SoC to the system's analog/physical domains

The Complementary Products are organized into functional categories, with the goal of showing several options and their respective Benefits.


Audio Input/Output

The Multi-channel Audio Serial Ports (McASP) included in C6747/45/43 devices can be used for interfacing to audio Codecs, ADCs, DACs, Digital Power Amplifiers, and more. Analog-to-Digital Converters

The serial peripheral interface (SPI) included in C6747/45/43 DSPs can be used to interface to low-speed serial ADCs. Digital-to-Analog Converters

RS-232

The UART peripheral included in C6747/45/43 DSPs can be used to implement a RS-232 interface when paired with the appropriate line driver/receiver. All UARTs on C6747/45/43 DSPs support transmit/receive. Additionally, UART0 supports modem control functions (CTS, RTS). Below is a sampling of RS-232 products with varying numbers of drivers/receivers to support the desired RS-232 capabilities. Note that the C6747/45 DSPs include three UARTs, while the C6743 DSP includes only two UARTs.

Clocking

C6747/45/43 DSPs require a 12 to 30MHz main clock. While a crystal can be paired with the internal oscillator to provide this clock, an external clock generator/synthesizer can sometimes be more cost effective. Clock generators/synthesizers can use a single crystal to produce many clock output frequencies using their internal PLLs. Not only can they source both the main clock for the DSP, they can also provide the clock for other devices in the system such as the audio and video encoders/decoders.

Power

C6747/45/43 DSPs require regulated Core (1.2V) and I/O (1.8V & 3.3V) voltages, sequenced in a low-to-high order. When selecting voltage regulators to pair with C6747/45/43 DSPs, TI provides an C6747/45/43 DSPs Power Consumption Summary (TBD) to help size the regulators for the worst case power of the system.


In addition, TI provides Power Management websites for the C6747/45 and C6743 that gives detailed power specs, power reference designs covering multiple design care-abouts, and other useful links. These power reference designs are built and tested based on the worst case power specs given in the power spec table.
