CC31xx & CC32xx Provisioning Features
Wi-Fi provisioning is the process of connecting a new Wi-Fi device (station) to a Wi-Fi network. The provisioning process involves loading the station with the network name (often referred to as SSID) and its security credentials. The Wi-Fi security standard distinguishes between personal security, mostly used in homes and businesses, and Enterprise security, used in large offices and campuses. Provisioning a station for Enterprise security usually involves installing a certificate, which is validated periodically by a security server managed by the IT department. Personal Wi-Fi security, on the other hand, needs to be handled by end users at home, and it simply involves typing a pre-defined password.
TI's SimpleLink Wi-Fi Family offers the most flexibility with provisioning options. The CC3100 (Wireless Network Processor) and CC3200 (Wireless MCU) support Access Point Mode, WPS, TI's SmartConfig Technology and more options to come. The SimpleLink™ Wi-Fi® Starter Pro mobile App is a new mobile application for SimpleLink provisioning. It goes along with the embedded provisioning library and example that runs on the device side. The new provisioning release is TI recommendation for Wi-Fi provisioning using SimpleLink Wi-Fi products. It implements advanced AP mode provisioning along with feedback and fallback options to ensure successful process has been accomplished. Customers can use both embedded library and the mobile library for integration to their end products.
