Q: where do I find information about the connectors used on the TI DSP Starter Kits (DSKs)?
refer to the technical references mentioned at the links above
Q: where do I find technical information about the daughtercard connections on the TI DSP Starter Kits (DSKs)?
the following document:
- TMS320 Cross-Platform Daughtercard Specification Revision 1.0, spra711 [5]
is the official specification of the daughtercard interface found on the DSK mentioned above. It includes mechanical and wiring information
Q: where do I find technical information about the daughtercard connections on the TI DM642 evm?
the following document:
- DM642 EVM Daughtercard Specification Revision 1.0 - spra920 [6]
is the official specification of the daughtercard interface found on the DM642 evm. It includes mechanical and wiring information
Q how do I find out compatible DSKs and analog evms?
go to the TI e-store and look for "compatible tools, DSP and analog" [7] on the right hand side menu. There is a huge list of analog evms that fit on those DSKs.
Q how do I know if a specific analog evm can be plugged in seamlessly on top of the C6713 / 6416 DSK?
you might have a look also at the 5-6K interface [8] specification
this intermediate board is used for plugging several analog daughtercards on the DSKs.
You can see if it's needed by looking at the e-store link mentioned above, on the far right side there is a column called "interface card required".
If there is no mention of it on the e-store, you can plug the analog daughtercard on top of the DSK without the need of an interface board like the 5-6K interface
Other DSP only evms
Q what about the other DSKs / EVMs
- C6455
the c6455 should have an expansion interface that is mechanically compatible with the daughtercard interface specification. However any existing daughtercard used on a 6416 or 6713 DSK is not guaranteed to be compatible with the 6455 DSK. This because although the connector wiring and dimensions might be the same, the device architecture, interface speeds and peripheral set will be different.
So for any existing third party daughercard you might have, you have to check with the manufacturer that it has been tested on the DSK you are interested in; this also for software and setup compatibility.
At the moment, none of the TI analog evms from the e-store have been tested on the 6455 DSK.
- Others
For other kits, the same advise applies. However, most of the latest DSP evms are not compatible with the daughtercard specification, not even mechanically (the connectors are different).
The specification was not strictly followed anymore on the more recent evms / starter kits
