The firmware update tool for LaunchPad is now available!

LaunchPadFirmwareUpdater2.0.exe is a GUI-based utility to update the emulator firmware of the MSP430 Value Line LaunchPad kit (MSP-EXP430G2). With this update, your LaunchPad will be able to support all new and future MSP430G2xx Value Line devices.

LaunchPad Firmware Update

OS Support: This utility has been tested and works under Windows XP (32 and 64-bit) and Windows 7 (32 and 64-bit)

Zip contents:

How to use the utility:

  1. Make sure the USB driver for LaunchPad is installed correctly on the used PC. Usually this requires either an MSP430 IDE being installed on the PC (either CCS or IAR Embedded Workbench for MSP430) or an internet connection to load the driver from Microsoft. The LaunchPad USB driver is NOT provided with the update utility, the tool relies on a correctly installed USB driver.
  2. Plug in LaunchPad via USB with MSP430G2xx device on DIP socket. The update utility checks for the presence of the target device. No update will be performed if the DIP socket is empty.
  3. Make sure only ONE LaunchPad is connected to the PC at a time. The update utility will detect if more than one LaunchPad is connected and refuse to perform an update of the emulator firmware.
  4. Double click the LaunchPadFirmwareUpdater2.0.exe and follow instructions on the screen.
  5. IMPORTANT: Do not disconnect the LaunchPad from USB while the update is running! This might cause an unrecoverable error state of the LaunchPad!!!
  6. COMPLETE! LaunchPad is updated!

Does not work but wrecks the Launchpad: 5. First update successful, then erasing second firmware - "An error/problem has occured, the application needs to close". Byebye (see the first note).

Subsequent attempts on updating fail (no MSP430... device detected).

Mr. Wolfgang Lutsch should also set his clock right, as this software is a release from the future (04/15/2011). Very disappointed and now with a "bricked" Launchpad. Please provide binary firmware files so people can flash the host controller with another ISP.

Update failed on my Launchpad sn:110109648 with F1612. Just now Launchpad not working. I try to flash firmware LP100901938.hex from 3060.LP100901938.zip into F1612 but Launchpad still not work. Is the LP100901938.hex correct for F1612?

Don't do the update via a VM. The board restarts which disconnects and reconnects from the host. If the VM is not configured to automatically get the device, the process will fail with...

"An error/problem has occured, the application needs to close"

From there I get the error, make sure that an MSP430G2xxx device is mounted on the launchpads DIP socket.

Okay, I screwed up and used an unstable pc to update the launchpad. It crashed and now I get the "no device mounted" error. I have a second launchpad which I updated with a good pc and all is well with that guy. I swap 430 chips and the error stays with the bad launchpad. Is there a way to recover this board?

Windows 7, running updater as administrator

Firmware updater V2, Windows 7. Run as administrator Brand new launchpad - just taken out of its box - I get the error above - "Please make sure that an MSP430G2xx is mounted on the LaunchPad's DIP socket." - of course there is one installed at the factory!! Lanuchpad #101014925

Also bricked another (code 101) - Launchpad #101014930 - now is not recognized at all.

So do I risk another or just give up on MSP430 development?
