Introduction
This page serves as a repository of Complimentary Devices that can be paired with the C6748/46/42 floating point digital signal processors (DSPs) when integrating the device into a system. The Complementary Products listed here serve a wide range of functions such as:
- Providing basic support functions for the DSP (power, clocking, etc.)
- Expanding the interface options beyond the on-chip peripherals
- Creating the link between the digital domains on the DSP to the system's analog/physical domains
The Complementary Products are organized into functional categories, with the goal of showing several options and their respective Benefits.
Analog Video Input
NOTE: Applies to C6748 and C6746 only.
C6748 and C6746 DSPs include a 8-/16-bit digital video input port (VPIF) that can be interfaced with a video decoder, or ADC, to bring analog SD video into the DSP. Before bringing the analog video into the ADC, it is also necessary to run it through an anti-aliasing filter to restrict the bandwidth before sampling. Below is a sample of SD video decoders and anti-aliasing filters that would be a good match for C6748/46 DSPs. Analog Video Output
Note: Applies to C6748 and C6746 only.
C6748 and C6746 DSPs include a 8-/16-bit digital video output port (VPIF) that can be interfaced with a video encoder, or DAC, to deliver analog SD video from the DSP. On the output of the ADC, it is also necessary to take the analog video through an amplifier and reconstruction filter to achieve the correct gain and remove the high-frequency images of the signal. Analog-to-Digital Converters
C6748 and C6746 DSPs include a universal parallel port (UPP) which can be used to interface to various devices like high-speed analog-to-digital converters (ADCs). Clocking
C6748/46/42 DSPs require a 12 to 30MHz main clock. While a crystal can be paired with the internal oscillator to provide this clock, an external clock generator/synthesizer can sometime be more cost effective. Clock generators/synthesizers can use a single crystal to produce many clock output frequencies using their internal PLLs. Not only can they source both the main clock for C6748/46/42 DSPs, they can also provide the clock for other devices in the system such as the audio and video encoders/decoders.
Additionally, the UPP requires a low-jitter clock to interface to high-speed ADCs and DACs. The UPP can be configured to operate using an external clock source provided by a clock generator/synthesizer.
